ANESTHESIA We here at The Animal Clinic make sure patients are safe underneath anesthesia.  How we accomplish this is by providing a safe and balanced anesthetic protocol along with multi-parameter monitoring equipment. We monitor the following: Patient’s mentation status                      Respiratory Rate & Quality Heart Rate, Rhythm and Quality            Capnography (CO2 Levels) Electrocardiogram                                  Body Core Temperature Blood Pressure Monitoring with precise equipment Not only do we use advanced monitoring equipment on our patients, but we also use advanced support equipment as well.  This includes a heated table and heated air circulatory blanket to maintain the patient’s body temperature while underneath anesthesia.  This additional support helps maintain a proper body blood pressure and also provides a quicker recovery from anesthesia. Lastly our staff is trained to properly monitor a patient underneath anesthesia and we have a Registered Veterinary Technician with extensive anesthesia experience monitoring and overseeing all patients that are underneath anesthesia at The Animal Clinic. Surgical Procedure – Regardless if it is a Spay or Neuter surgery our veterinarian at The Animal Clinic has extensive experience in these surgical procedures.  We also have advanced surgical equipment such as electro cautery for any complex surgical cases.  Your pet will be in excellent hands. Hospitalization – Before and after the surgery, your pet will be closely monitored and taken well care of, making sure he or she is as comfortable as possible.  We also routinely walk them to make sure they stay nice and sanitary. Pain Medication – One of the most important things for your pet is theircomfort level at home.  We provide proper pain management that will make your pet nice and relaxed and pain free.
OPTIONAL ADDITIONS TO SURGERY Pre-Operative Blood Work – Like you, our greatest concern is the well being of your pet. We will perform a pre-operative physical exam on your pet before anesthesia. We do strongly recommend pre-operative blood work to rule out some underlying or pre-existing conditions such as liver or kidney diseases which may not be evident on the pre-operative physical exam. There are additional charges for this testing depending on the age of your pet. For pets up to 6 years of age the cost for the preoperative blood work is $94 For pets 7 years of age and over the cost for the preoperative blood work is $147 Pre-Operative Electrocardiogram – This testing is usually routinely performed on our senior patients, but also can be performed on adult and pediatric patients as well.  This electrocardiogram gives us more detailed information on the heart.  We can listen and hear the hearts rate and rhythm along with murmurs, but this test gives us information to see if the heart is working in a proper manner.  The electrocardiogram is sent to a cardiologist and is reviewed and a report is sent back to our hospital.  This additional testing can be performed before the surgical procedure.  The cost for this test is $65. I. V. Fluid Therapy – I.V. Fluids are a beneficial part of your pet’s surgery to go along with anesthesia because it helps keep the pet’s blood pressure regulated and correct during anesthesia.  This also will keep the patient hydrated as well and correct any dehydration process during the procedure.  We strongly recommend this for all anesthetic procedures, but do leave it optional for spay, neuter and dental procedures to help with the cost.  This additional service can be performed for an additional cost of $50. Nail Trim – Since your pet is underneath anesthesia, we can perform a nice detailed nail trim to get them as short as they can go without causing any discomfort. This additional service can be done for an additional $10. Elizabethan Collar – While your pet rests at home we need to make sure your pet does not lick or bite at the surgical incision site for the next 10 to 14 days.  An Elizabethan collar will greatly help stop them from doing such things.  If you do not wish to purchase an Elizabethan collar, you must keep a close eye on your pet at all times so he or she does not create any openings of the incision or any infection.  This Elizabethan collar can be sent home at an additional cost of $12 plus tax. Microchip – While your pet is in for the surgical procedure you should consider getting a microchip implanted.  This is a simple process and is best while they are underneath anesthesia.  We can perform this procedure for an additional cost of $44.  This includes the registration fee. Non-Routine Neuters - Sometimes when a pet is born there may be only 1 testicle or none of the testicles that descend into the scrotum.  After we perform the pre-operative physical exam on your pet we can better tell you if this is the scenario.  This requires a more extensive surgical procedure and we can revise an estimate for you.  This would not fall under the Neuter Package. Patients in Heat or Pregnant - Sometimes when a pet is brought in they can be in heat.  One way to tell this is a bloody discharge coming from the pet’s vulva.  Also sometimes this is not noticeable until we perform the procedure and see that the uterus is swollen indicating that the pet is in her heat cycle.  If this does occur there are additional charges for this because it does make the surgical procedure more complicated with the extra blood supply going to the uterus.  The additional charges are $35.  **If a pet is pregnant additional charges apply.
